Stumpfield/Watt Strategic Fuel Treatment Phase II
Located along Stumpfield Mountain Road off of Highway 49 South. This project will break up both vertical and horizontal continuity of fuels, creating a shaded fuel break and giving firefighters a decisive edge in reducing the size and intensity of wildfires occuring in the area. The communities of Ponderosa Basin, Usona, and Bootjack will be better protected from large and damaging wildfires, therefore reducing potential for loss of lives, property, natural and manmade resources. The Chowchilla River drainage will be less vulnerable to soil damage and erosion caused by large, high intensity wildfires, resulting in increased quality and quanity of water available in watershed and improvement of wildlife habitat and forage for grazing.
This project is funded through Cal Fire Prop 40 and is being administered by the Mariposa County Fire Safe Coucil.
The fuel break will be completed by April 2010.
